Various categories of visas have been established in the Republic of Kazakhstan depending on the purpose of foreigners’ stay. When applying for a visa, it is crucial to specify the grounds that align with the purpose of the visit. What types of visas are available for foreigners? Who are they issued to and for how long?
According to the Rules for issuing Kazakhstan visas, they are divided into the following types:
Diplomatic visa (A1, A2) is granted to heads of foreign states, governments, international organizations, and individuals equated with diplomatic status, as well as their family members; members of parliaments, foreign governments, and international organizations holding diplomatic passports, along with members of official foreign delegations and their accompanying persons; Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Kazakhstan and their families holding diplomatic passports, and holders of international organization passports equated with diplomatic agents traveling to Kazakhstan on official business; diplomatic couriers carrying diplomatic mail with a courier sheet; diplomatic agents of foreign diplomatic and equivalent offices, consular officials of foreign consulates, employees of international organizations and their offices accredited in Kazakhstan traveling for work, and honorary consuls of foreign states accredited in Kazakhstan along with their families.
Diplomatic visas can be issued for both single and multiple entries. A single entry visa of A1, A2 category is valid for up to 90 days, multiple A1 for up to 1 year, and A2 category for up to 180 days.

Service visa (A3, A4) is provided to members of official foreign delegations, their accompanying persons, and family members; representatives of foreign media accredited in Kazakhstan; servicemen of foreign states traveling to Kazakhstan on official business; dependents of persons applying for “A2” and “A4” visas; holders of passports of international organizations without diplomatic status, as well as holders of national passports working for international organizations and their families; holders of official passports traveling to Kazakhstan on official business; diplomatic couriers carrying diplomatic pouches without a diplomatic passport, provided with a courier’s document; persons on business trips to Kazakhstan at the invitation of foreign diplomatic missions, consular agencies, international organizations, and state bodies of Kazakhstan; cosmonauts and astronauts traveling to Kazakhstan for space missions and returning to Earth.

Investor Visa (A5) is designated for heads and/or deputies, and/or heads of structural units of legal entities engaged in investment activities in Kazakhstan, as well as foreigners and stateless individuals investing under the AIFC investment tax residency program, along with their family members.

Business visa (B1, B2, B3) is issued to participants of conferences, symposiums, forums, exhibitions, concerts, cultural, scientific, sports, and other events; participants in meetings, round tables, exhibitions, expert panels; those accompanying humanitarian assistance; persons arriving for the purpose of lecturing or teaching in educational institutions; participants in youth, student, and school exchange programs, except for education in Kazakhstan’s educational institutions; persons arriving for equipment installation, repair, and maintenance; those providing consulting or auditing services; persons engaged in negotiations, contract signing; individuals participating in negotiations, contract signings within industrialization and investment cooperation; and founders or board directors.

Visa for international road transport (B4) is intended for persons involved in international road transport. A single entry visa is valid for up to 90 days, while a multiple entry visa is valid for up to 1 year.
Visa for crew members of air, sea, river vessels, and train crews (B5) is granted to members of regular and charter flight crews who do not have the appropriate International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) certificate, train crews, and sea and river vessel crews.
A single entry visa is valid for up to 90 days, while a multiple entry visa is valid for up to 1 year.

Visa for participation in religious activities (B6) is issued to individuals traveling to Kazakhstan to participate in religious association activities (excluding missionary activities). This type of visa is valid for a single entry/departure for up to 90 days.
Visa for practical training or internship (B7) is provided to individuals traveling to Kazakhstan for practical training or internships, including training under the Astana Hub programs, as well as their family members. A single entry visa is valid for up to 90 days, while a multiple entry visa is valid for up to 180 days.
